Some to-be and new parents believe that reusable diapers are like the langots for babies used by parents of earlier generations and decide against using them. - All in ones (AIOs) – The name itself says it all, that this diaper is offering all you need in one convenient package. It has both an absorbent layer and a waterproof outer layer in one piece. No separate cover and stuffing are needed as it’s all sewn together. The only issue is that they take time to dry. Other than that they are super easy to use.
- Prefolds – These are the traditional diapers that your mother or grandmother may have used. Prefold cloth diapers come in a variety of fabric including bamboo and hemp. They are folded and stitched to make them thicker and more absorbent. They have snazzy diaper fasteners to fasten them instead of pins that were used in yesteryears. You need to cover this diaper with a waterproof cover.
- Fitted – Similar to prefolds, they are made of similar material and need waterproof covers. The only difference is that they don’t need folding and fasteners to close. If you opt for a fitted diaper, you need to buy different sizes as your baby grows. They are very breathable and allow fresh air inside and avoid rash problems.
- Pocket – Pocket diapers come in two parts, the waterproof outer layer, and the absorbent insert that goes inside the pocket of the waterproof layer. You can use different kinds of inserts and even more than one for better absorbency. The cover and the insert need to be washed after every use but as they are two separate pieces, they dry faster than other diapers.

Reusable diapers have many health benefits.
- Reusable diapers are made of all-natural and organic material hence the child gets less exposure to harmful chemicals including color, pesticides, and fragrance.
- The absence of a plastic layer in reusable diapers make them more breathable and this reduces skin irritation.
How to wash reusable diapers
To keep the reusable diapers fresh and friendly for your child's skin you must wash the dirty diaper every next day if washing every day is not possible. Do not wash more than 12-18 diapers at a time during the hot water cycle as an overloaded machine may not allow the proper space for the diapers to get clean.
Try mild detergent that leaves little fragrance on the fabric. Several diapers are available in the market that are recommended for reusable diapers. Don’t use fabric softeners otherwise the diapers will lose their absorbency. It is good to sun-dry the diapers in the morning or late in the afternoon. The day heat may stiffen the diapers.
